I am a highly experienced investigator and cybersecurity specialist. I specialise in Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) and have more than 15 years’ experience of conducting internet investigations. I currently work as a Cyber Threat Analyst at Protection Group International.
In my law enforcement career I was a detective focusing on cyber crime, digital forensics, and internet research. Having built up my skills in traditional investigations of serious and complex crime I began to develop techniques and tactics to identify and prosecute criminals who used the internet, including some of the UK’s most prolific child sex offenders, fraudsters, and dark web criminals.
After leaving law enforcement I worked at QOMPLX as a Senior OSINT Specialist where I used my skills to help some of the world’s largest companies understand what made them vulnerable to ransomware, business email compromise, and other types of cyber crime in both their own infrastructure and their supply chain. By automating and scaling different OSINT techniques I was able to produce actionable cybersecurity insights for thousands of vendors in an organisation’s supply chain.
I’m also an Instructor Candidate for the SANS Institute, the world’s largest information security research, training, and certification provider. I teach SEC497 Practical Open Source Intelligence to students from Fortune 500 companies, government, military and law enforcement so that they will have the skills they need to have successful careers in cyber security and all aspects of internet investigation.
I’m a confident and experienced public speaker, and I love to share my learning and research with others. I am one of the founders of ODIN – The UK’s OSINT and Digital Investigator’s Network. I was also previously an executive board member of The OSINT Curious Project.
When I’m not sat at my computer I’m usually out walking or cycling in England’s most beautiful county.
